Little Women Book-to-Film Club
For our first book-to-film club meeting, we want to start with something that’s (for the most part) all-ages, widely known, and topical.
So, because the new adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women is back in theaters, this is a great opportunity to revisit the novel. The new production has been directed by Directed by Greta Gerwig and stars some of Hollywood’s most elite actresses—it's also argued to (finally) be truest Alcott’s novel.
Among other topics, we’ll be looking at the novel as a radical art form of its time as well as its historical significance in the aftermath of the Civil War.
The book club will meet on Wednesday, January 22nd from 6PM – 7PM to discuss the novel, and again on Wednesday, January 29th from 6PM – 7PM to discuss the film adaptation. Both dates we will meet at Sulfur Books (18 East Main Street in Clifton Springs)
Space is limited, please sign up in advance.
Sulfur Books will be selling the new copies of Little Women in early 2020—but feel free to bring your own copy!
Book club members will arrange to see the film separately—we will not be viewing it as a group this time.
Following this event will be our reading of 12 Years a Slave by Solomon Northup with a screening of the film adaptation at the Main Street Arts gallery! Stay tuned for more information on our winter book-to-film club series.
This event is part of ongoing literary arts programming through Main Street Arts
