The Artist at the Table will take place on the main floor of Main Street Arts in conjunction with the Residency Alumni Exhibition: 20 West Main Street, Clifton Springs, NY 14432
The second floor of Main Street Arts used to look much different than it does today — four different rooms filled with monthly rotating exhibitions. In early 2016, two of those rooms were converted into studio spaces and the artist residency program at Main Street Arts was started.
The goal was to combine an exhibition environment with an active art making environment. We hear from residents often that this is what makes the artist residency program at Main Street Arts unique.
The residency program provides artists time and space to focus on their work in a location that also allows the local community to interact with these working artists. Gallery visitors often stop into the studios to see what current residents are working on, discuss their work, ask questions, give new perspectives. Maybe you have done so when visiting the gallery!
Since the residency program started in June 2016, a total of 52 artists from 17 states and Canada have spent one or two months working in the studio spaces on the gallery’s second floor. Residents from out of town stay in one of two apartments located in Clifton Springs.
In 2018, Main Street Arts became a nonprofit arts organization. Our mission as a nonprofit is to promote the work of local, regional, and national artists as well as to encourage the creation of art and develop community awareness regarding the arts. The residency program is an integral part of our mission. We are thankful to have gotten to know so many artists through the program and introduce them to the Finger Lakes and Upstate New York community.
We are very excited to see how the program will grow and, with your support, we hope you can be a part of that with us!
