“I am researching the identity crisis in young adults as they search for meaning and belonging in a world of spectacle and external pressures. My interests lie in entropy, the uncanny, and the development of self. I question legacy, the permanence of photography, and the fragility of identity and memories.”
John Van Houten is an illustrator and figurative painter in Buffalo, NY. He received his BFA in Illustration from KCAD in Grand Rapids, MI, and he is pursuing his MFA in Studio Art at SUNY University at Buffalo. In his fine art practice he studies legacy and the uncanny.
